120+ key building standards are now free, MBIE's aim being to remove barriers to best practice and compliance.

MBIE just announced that 120+ building standards have now been made available for download at no cost.

MBIE is funding this initiative with the aim being "to make it easier to comply with the Building Code".

The selected standards have been chosen for free download because they "directly help demonstrate compliance with the Building Code, resulting in safe and well-constructed buildings and homes," says MBIE.

MBIE adds for good measure that it has "acted on the concerns of building practitioners that the cost of standards can be a barrier to applying best practice."

New Zealand is now one of the few countries in the world providing free access to building standards.

The available standards can be accessed through the Standards New Zealand website.
