NOVEMBER RESIDENTIAL CONSENTS REACH 10-YEAR HIGH

Stats NZ says November was a billion dollar-plus month for residential consents (see chart above).

The total value of all building work consented in November 2015 was $1.6 billion. For November 2015 compared with November 2014:

  • Residential work was up $196 million (+23%) to $1.1 billion.
  • Non-residential work was up $105 million (+25%) to $531 million.

 

VOLUMES REACH 10-YEAR HIGH

In terms of residential volume, 2,831 new dwellings were consented in November 2015, which is the most in a month since March 2005, when 3,027 new dwellings were consented (see chart below covering the last 24 months only).

Fully a third of those consents were multi-unit consents:

  • 1,864 houses.
  • 270 apartments.
  • 321 retirement village units.
  • 376 townhouses, flats, and units.
