The weekly BNZ Marketview consumer spending indicator for the week ending 14 Feb has hardware & homeware spending growth well ahead of the market.

Consumer spending on BNZ credit and debit cards for the last 7 days (ex fuel) was +3.1% and +4% for the last 52 weeks.

The store types with the largest rises in spending included sports & camping (+18%), hardware & homeware (+12%) and department stores (+10%).

One other interesting aside was that spending on the Monday of Waitangi weekend was down on last year,  the same day last year being a working day.
